Liberation Museum (Kurtuluş Müzesi)
Odunpazarı, Eskişehir
A museum telling the story of the War of Independence interactively, in the Mestanoğlu Halil Mansion where İsmet İnönü stayed during the First Battle of İnönü.
Its story
The Liberation Museum was opened by the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality on 29 October 2016, the 93rd anniversary of the Republic. The Mestanoğlu Halil Mansion, where the museum is housed, was chosen because it was the building where İsmet İnönü stayed during the First Battle of İnönü in 1921. With touch screens, a cartoon room and a strategy room, it makes the 1919–1923 period understandable especially for children and young people. The strategy room re-creates the First Battle of İnönü, with wax statues of İnönü, Fahrettin Altay and Mehmetçik (the Turkish soldier). It is a short stop on the museum route in Odunpazarı.
