Its story
Alalakh was an important city in the 2nd millennium BC, under Aleppo-centered Yamhad and then under Mitanni and Hittite influence. The excavations of the British archaeologist Leonard Woolley uncovered palaces, temples and the inscribed statue of King Idrimi. With the new excavations, protective roofs and information panels have been set up at the site. The mound on the bank of the Asi River is about 20 kilometers from Antakya.
