Its story
The Ulu Mosque was built in the second half of the 13th century in the Mamluk period and comprehensively repaired in the 18th century. Its location in the middle of the bazaar fabric made the mosque the meeting point of the city's trade for centuries. In the 2023 earthquakes the building and its minaret were seriously damaged. The restoration, run by the General Directorate of Foundations, had been targeted for completion in June 2026; its current status should be confirmed before going.
