Tell Dhahab (Altıntepe) Mound
Reyhanlı, Hatay
The 'golden hill' mound near Reyhanlı, settled since the Neolithic Age.
Its story
Tell Dhahab means 'golden hill' in Arabic; the mound's present name is Altıntepe. On the mound, 1.5–2 km southeast of Reyhanlı, about 200 meters in diameter and 10 meters high, it has been determined that settlement began 9 thousand years ago, in the Neolithic Age. The mound was identified in 1933 in Robert J. Braidwood's survey of the Amik Plain, and a sounding made in 1938 uncovered Early Bronze Age layers.
