Its story
The station was built in 1899, in the Russian Imperial period, as part of the Transcaucasian Railway. Because the line was originally on the Russian track gauge, Kars could not be directly connected to the rest of Türkiye's railway network until 1939; the gauges were standardized in 1957 and 1962. Today the station, the terminus of the Ankara–Kars line, is the arrival stop of the Doğu Ekspresi (Eastern Express) and Turistik Doğu Ekspresi (Touristic Eastern Express) trains. The stone buildings around the station, the water tower and the historic steam locomotive displayed on the square reflect the city's railway past.
