Its story
The Ilgaz Dağı National Park was established in 1976 on the border of Kastamonu and Çankırı; most of the area is on the Kastamonu side. The Ankara–Kastamonu highway passes through the park, which is about 40 km from central Kastamonu. Black pine, Turkish pine and fir forests, rich undergrowth and wild animals such as roe deer, red deer and bears are the park's main assets. The North Anatolian Fault, Türkiye's longest fault line, passes along the mountain's southern slopes. Nature walks and tent and caravan camping are possible; seasonal angling is permitted in the trout ponds in the Baldıran Valley.
