Its story
According to its endowment deed dated 1553, the mosque at the center of the complex was built with a central plan in classical Ottoman architecture by Canbolat Bey, sanjak governor of Kilis, in the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent. Because Canbolat Bey was an admirer of Mevlânâ (Rumi) and built this mosque in front of the lodge (tekke) he had commissioned, it is popularly known as the 'Tekye (Tekke) Mosque'. Because of its similarities with the Hüsreviye Mosque in Aleppo, it is sometimes attributed to Mimar Sinan, but its architect is not known for certain. The complex includes a madrasa, a tomb and, to the north, the Paşa Hammam. A restoration of the mosque began in 2024.
