Karatay, Konya
A city museum and old Konya house displaying the archaeological, ethnographic and natural history objects collected by a Konya resident over his lifetime.
Its story
İzzet Koyunoğlu began collecting artifacts in a historic Konya house from 1913; he donated his collection to the Konya Municipality in 1973. His house was placed under protection, and with a modern building constructed beside it, the museum reopened in 1984. Archaeological works of Anatolian civilizations, coins, calligraphy panels, carpets and kilims, clothing and natural history objects are displayed. The historic Koyunoğlu Mansion in the garden reflects the room layout and furnishings of old Konya houses. It is a short walk from the Mevlânâ Museum.
