Its story
The rose garden of the Seljuk Sultan Alâeddin Keykubad I was given as a burial place to Bahâeddin Veled, Rumi's father. When Rumi died in 1273, his tomb was built beside his father's, and the green-tiled dome resting on four massive piers, the Kubbe-i Hadrâ (Green Dome), became over time the symbol of the lodge. In the following centuries a semahane (ceremonial hall), masjid, dervish cells, kitchen and şadırvan were added; the interest of the Ottoman sultans ensured that the buildings were well preserved. After the closure of the tekkes and zaviyes, it was arranged as a museum in 1926. Today the tomb section displays sarcophagi, the semahane musical instruments, manuscript copies of the Masnavi and Mevlevi objects; in the dervish cells in the garden, lodge life is re-created.
