Eğdemir Hammam (Elvan Bey Hammam)
Merkez, Kütahya
A historic bazaar hammam from the Germiyanoğulları period with a classic plan and a four-iwan hot room.
Its story
Also known as the Eydemir or Elvan Bey Hammam, the building was commissioned in the mid-15th century by Elvan Bey, chief taster (çaşnigirbaşı) of the Germiyan Bey Yakub Bey II. It stands in the Börekçiler neighborhood, on the corner where Cumhuriyet (Erbesan) Caddesi meets Eğdemir Sokağı. In the middle of the domed changing room is a round fountain-pool, and in the warm room an elliptical pool. The hot room, domed at its center, has a four-iwan layout, with private bathing cells (halvet) in the corners.
