Kula Yeni Hamam (Sungur Bey Hammam)
Kula, Manisa
An Ottoman hammam within Kula's historic bazaar fabric, completed in 1502-1503 according to its inscription.
Its story
Popularly also known as the Sungur Bey Hammam or Çinçin Hammam, the Yeni Hamam (New Hammam) is in Kula's old town center. The gate inscription states that the building was completed in the Hijri year 908 (1502-1503) and was commissioned by Muhammed bin Mustafa. Because of its name it is often linked to the Germiyanoğlu Sungur Bey, who lived in the 14th century, but the older group of buildings of Sungur Bey, which included a hammam, has not survived. The hammam is part of the historic fabric that can be explored on foot together with the Kula houses and bazaar.
