Its story
According to tradition, the monastery was founded in the 4th century by the monk Mor Evgin (Awgin), who came from Egypt, and his seventy disciples, in the İzla area about 25-30 km from Nusaybin. At an elevation of about 900 meters above sea level, the building forms a complex developed around a courtyard; it contains graves of saints and servants, hermit cells and worship sections. It is said that at one time hundreds of monks lived here and that the monks trained here went to distant lands. Damaged in 1915, the monastery has now been reopened for worship. Its position overlooking the plain makes the mountain journey scenic.
