Its story
The complex consists of a mosque, minaret, the tombs of Zeynel Abidin and his sister Sitti Zeynep, a şadırvan (ablution fountain), madrasa rooms and a cemetery. The inscription on the tomb door gives the date 553 AH (1159); the building is dated to the 12th century, and on the facade of the Sitti Zeynep tomb there is a repair inscription dated 1821. The minaret of the L-plan cut-stone mosque was added in 1956, and the marble mihrab and minbar are also new. Stone steps lead down to the domed tomb of Zeynel Abidin, a descendant of Hz. Hüseyin. Added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2014 together with the neighboring Mor Yakup Church, the complex is a stop that shows two faiths living side by side for centuries.
