Gözne Highland (Yayla) and Castle
Toroslar, Mersin
An old summer resort settlement among pine forests north of Mersin, with a medieval castle on its hilltop.
Its story
Gözne is a highland at an altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level, where the people of Mersin escaping the summer heat have settled for centuries. On the rocky hill above the village, surrounded by old stone highland houses and pine forests, are the remains of a small medieval castle. From the castle a wide view opens over the valley below and the distant coast. The area is a day-trip route favored for a short escape from the city.
