Mamure Castle
Anamur, Mersin
One of Türkiye's best-preserved medieval castles, right on the sea, with more than 30 bastions.
Its story
The castle developed on top of a structure founded in the Roman period; it was used by the Armenians, the Lusignans, the Karamanids and the Ottomans. With its three courtyards, thick walls and bastions on the seashore, it is in very sound condition. Inside are a mosque and a hamam from the Karamanid period.
