Meydancık Castle
Gülnar, Mersin
One of the oldest castles of Rough Cilicia, with layers stretching from the Hittite period to the Persian and Hellenistic ages.
Its story
The settlement, whose ancient name is thought to have been Kirshu, was an important administrative center from the 7th century BC. Aramaic inscriptions and a coin hoard from the Persian period were found in excavations. The castle, built on a rocky plateau, has a wide view toward the Mediterranean.
