The main mosque in the city center, in the middle of the bazaar, which rose with Mersin's modern urbanization.
Its story
The Ulu Mosque, built in the bazaar area as Mersin grew rapidly into a port city in the 19th century, is one of the religious focal points of the city center. The narrow streets around the mosque are still a busy shopping area today. The building is part of a walking route showing the city's multicultural past, together with the nearby Eski (Old) Mosque, the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church.
