Milas Ulu Mosque (Ahmed Gazi Mosque)
Milas, Muğla
A beylik-period mosque built with reused ancient stones, commissioned by Ahmed Gazi of the Menteşe dynasty in the 14th century.
Its story
According to its inscription, the Milas Ulu Mosque was commissioned by Ahmed Gazi Bey, emir of the Menteşe Beylik. Architectural fragments brought from ancient Mylasa can be seen in its cut-stone walls. The building has undergone many repairs from the 19th century to the present; most recently its roof and wooden minaret were renewed. Together with the Firuz Bey Mosque and Beçin, it completes Milas's beylik-period heritage.
