Its story
Narlıgöl, or Nar Gölü, formed in a volcanic explosion crater (maar) surrounded by hills, at a point close to the Niğde–Aksaray provincial border. The lake, at 1,363 meters above sea level, is about 21 meters deep with an area of 0.7 km², and its waters are bitter. Traces of volcanic activity continue today: waters at about 65 °C emerge around the lake and are used in thermal facilities. The lake, a natural protected site, can be added to a Cappadocia trip thanks to its proximity to the Ihlara Valley–Nevşehir road.
