Its story
According to sources, this site was occupied by the Church of St. John (John the Baptist), commissioned by Bishop Nona in 457 and famous for its red marble columns. Sources put forward different views on the date of the present building; the church, thought to have been rebuilt in the 19th century, was used for many years for different purposes after the community left, for a time as a power station. The repaired building opened for worship on 28 May 1993 under the name Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque. With its tall cut-stone facade and spacious interior, it stands opposite the Fırfırlı Mosque on the road to Balıklıgöl.
