Historic Uşak Station and Atatürk Monument
Merkez, Uşak
The station building built by the French in the 1890s and, in front of it, Gürdal Duyar's caped Atatürk statue.
Its story
Uşak Station was built in the 1890s by a French company on the İzmir-Afyonkarahisar railway line; it is visited for its historic building and steam locomotives. In front of the station stands a caped Atatürk statue by Gürdal Duyar, erected in 1965. The statue is one of the monuments erected in eight cities as a result of a competition launched through a campaign by the Milliyet newspaper; it was first placed in front of the governor's office and later moved to the station. The new Uşak Museum is also on the old station site.
