Its story
The Akdağmadeni Church is a product of the social structure shaped by the Ottomans' operation of the region's lead mines in the 19th century. As most of the mine workers at that time were non-Muslims, it was built for their worship needs. Built in 1862 according to the Greek inscriptions at the entrance, the church has a three-aisled basilica plan in cut stone and marble. Left without a congregation after the 1924–1927 population exchange, the building fell into disuse. It is one of the few buildings recalling Akdağmadeni's mining past; access to the interior varies.
