Its story
The Çeşka Underground City is on a high hill north of the Kirazlı Pond, about 3 kilometers northeast of central Yozgat. Like other underground settlements in the region, it was carved for defense, shelter and storage; it contains niches, galleries connecting to rooms of different sizes and, at the very top of the hill, rock tombs. Painted ceramics from the Phrygian, Roman and Byzantine periods have been found on the surface; the structure is stated to date from the early Christian period. In the settlement, protected as a site, landscaping work has begun after the expropriation of the buildings blocking the entrance. Its opening status varies; get information before going.
