Mudurnu Clock Tower
Mudurnu, Bolu
A 12-meter wood-clad clock tower with a tiled roof rising on the slope east of the town; all of Mudurnu can be seen from around it.
Its story
The first clock tower in Mudurnu was built of wood in 1891 but was destroyed together with the Çetin neighborhood in the great fire at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1905 a new tower was built on the same site with stones brought from Mudurnu Castle; prisoners from the town's prison were made to work on its construction, and the wrought-iron clock was made by a local master. Heavily damaged in another fire in 1964, the tower was repaired, and in the 1990s its exterior was clad in wood. The three-story tower, with a base of 3.80 square meters, has clocks on its west, north and south faces. The hill where the tower stands is one of the best points for viewing Mudurnu's historic houses and valley.
