A complex of a mosque, madrasa, hospital and tomb founded by Yıldırım Bayezid in the late 14th century.
Its story
The complex was founded in 1390–1395 by Yıldırım Bayezid on the slope east of the city. The five-bay portico on the facade of the inverted-T-plan mosque is regarded as one of the most elegant facades of early Ottoman architecture. The mosque, madrasa, hospital (darüşşifa), soup kitchen (imaret) and the sultan's tomb stand at different levels. Bayezid, who died after the Battle of Ankara, was brought here and buried. The complex is one of the components of the Bursa and Cumalıkızık UNESCO World Heritage site.
